phosban reactor

How much Rowa or Phosban do you guys and girls run in the chamber? I have the Two Little Fishes reactor that I just put on my 70 gal. For instance if you bought a 500ml can of this stuff how much of that would you use at a time?

SEAFLOWERS - I have two on my system also. I run 150 grams â€œlooseâ€ in one which Two Little Fishes states will treat up to a 150 gallon tank for several months. I try and change mine very month or so. I run carbon in a bag in the other and change it out every two weeks.

do you "daisy chain" the 2 reactors or are you using 2 seperate pumps?

I had them daisy chained but the flow thru the carbon was to slow so I split them and run a MaxiJet for the carbon now. If you are running just Phosban you could daisy chain them. I basically used the two 90 degree elbows that came with them and attaching them together. Here is a pic before I split them:

I put a cup in mine and run it for a month. I put about 1/2 cup of carbon on top of the phos media. It seems to be working well. HA is way done and diatoms are gone. I was stuck unsing a bad RO for my tank setup, so I know I had phosphates from the semi filtered water water.

rstark....so is your carbon and phosban mixing together? Do they need to be separated? I'm currently running phosban only and was wondering about putting both in.

They stay fairly sepaprated. I don't know that it would be a bg deal if they mix. I keep the flow pretty slow, only the top inch or so is tumbling.
For some reason I think I have seen carbon mixed with some other reactor media in the package. I thinkit is fine, do't know why it would be.

YOu can mix the two. The only problem is AC has no where the effective life that the PO4 remover does, so the trick is coming up with an easy way to discard the AC keeping the PO4 remover.

I take some blue bond filter material, cut it to size, get an extra sponge for the reactor and use that to seperate the two with the AC on the top. After a week I dump the AC, add more, and let er go. Works good for me.

The only thing I would add is that the carbon should be replaced more often then the Phosban to prevent nitrate build up. Before, I used one reactor with the Phosban on the bottom and the carbon in a bag above it, that way I could just pull the bag out and replace the carbon without changing the Phosban.

Yes! Some one should come up with an invention for that as I spill more than I use and man, is that stuff hard to clean out of a sink or what!
