Clown tangs, how hard are they to keep?

I know some people have a clown tang in here...Everything I read says they are hard to keep...is this the case and why is that?

They are difficult to keep. They usually come in and wont eat. I would say your best bet is to put them into a large tank with a good amount of naturally growing algea. Also they can be very aggresive. If you plan on keeping it with other tangs make it the last one.

IME small one's have a dismal survival rate (probably due to quick starvation?).

Thanks...So if I found one in a store that had been there awhile and he as eating...I should be pretty good to go?

That would be a safe bet, how large is your tank? How much rock do you have? And what would it's tankmates be?

I have a clown tang along with a kole tang of same size. They made it through a 4 wk copper QT in a 30 gal long (which I was worried about but I knew if I wanted two tangs I should add them at the same time) and are now in my main tank. The clown tang looked great at the store and was eating and swimming fine, it had been there a while also. I was kind of having buyers regret after I got it because of their reputation. I really only wanted the Kole tang but knew if I was going to want another tang I better get them together and the store didn't have much choice at the time. So far so good.

120gallon... as for tank mates, not sure what will be in the future...and I have about a 100lbs of LR...

Advanced in Salem has a nice one that was eating when i was there for the meeting. Sweet looking fish!
