I think 15 hours of light may be a little bit too long and adding to the problem.

Have you tested for Phosphates?

The tang is probably sore from being stung and almost eaten by the BTA. Probably afraid to "leave the house" so to speak.

BTAs are really ill equiped to catch fish, so I'm almost 100% sure that the BTA catching the Tang has more to do with the Tang being in poor health to start with, than the BTA grabbing him.

Have you tested ammonia, etc?

Maybe it has to do with the type of water you're topping off with. If your RO/DI unit needs filters replaced or you're using plain old tap water, this could be causing problems.

Hey, I'm having problems with hair algea. Newish tank, up one month. Doing my first water change tomorrow. How do I get rid of it? Some diatomes too.

You may want to try getting some extra oxygen into the water.Tangs tend to need more than other fish. It cant hurt to try.
