ALK problem

I just tested my CA and Alk with my salifert test kits. I tested the CA first and got 410 which sounded about right. I have only tested alk one other time and it was at 15 dKH. This seemed high but I didn’t figured that I just did something wrong and I did not care much because I did not have any coral at the time. When I just tested it I used the whole 1ml syringe. I once again thought I did something wrong so I retested and the same thing happened so I refilled the 1ml syringe and added more till it got to 1.5ml total. That would mean I have a dKH of 24 but I know that can’t be. I have a CA reactor and do few water changes (I know I should do more just waiting for my RO). Is this a bad kit?

It very well could be. I just went through three salifert KH kits that all gave totally different readings. I have lost all faith in their test kits now.

I'm not so sure. The alkalinity coming out of a calcium reactor is quite high, approaching 34 dKH and 600 ppm Ca. It may be you just need to cut back on the reactor. See Calcium and Alkalinity.

it seems a very high though, because my original alk of 15dkh was without the reactor working. i know it will go up but i think that is a little extreme
