Hang-on Filter used as refugium
In constant research in this hobby, I just found out that a hang-on filter can be used as a refugium, just wondering how this works, and if it's possible with my set-up. I have an emporer bio-wheel filter that I'm using just for mechanical filteration now (the bio wheel is removed). Besides this, I have a canister filter where I run carbon, and it acts as a great powerhead in the tank. So I don't really need the emporer, I just leave it there cause it's there. My tank is 29 gallon, and the emporer can only hold 1 gallon of water, maybe 1.5. is this enough to be used succesfully as a refuge? If yes, how do I do this? or any links to other info would help too. thanks

You could do that.
Normally in a fuge you have some sand, some live rock rubble and maybe some chaeto. The idea is to have a safe place for pods to develop. If you don't have the ability to throw some light on it, skip the Chaeto. Best of luck, Roy |
