question about substrate replacement

how often , if ever , should i replace , or partialy replace , the live sand in my refugium ? how about in my display tank ?

60 gal. tall display mix reef w/ fish ( 1-2 inch bed ) , 29 gal. refugium w/ 4 inch bed + chet macro alg. , 20 gal. long sump
