Safe to run an A200-1260 on a 240

I'll keep this short, I'm thinking of going to a 240 (maybe 225)from my current 90. I have an opportunity to get an H&S skimmer (A200-1260).

I like to "overskim", the new system will be SPS and clams. Will the skimmer "cut it"?

I imagine it will, I understand that H&S is pretty conservatively rated. Ususally they say to get a skimmer rated for twice your system volume so that's what's got me secind guessing.

What do you guys think? I'd have to run this skimmer on my 90 until I get all the equipment to get the 240 (or whatever it ends up being) running.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Its rated for 300G, so you should be good. IMO, if you have to buy a skimmer that is rated for 2x the size of your system, that says something about skimmer "ratings".

I totally agree, it seems like it's different with every company. I wish there was a standard by which they had to conform but with all the different types ot technology it would be impossible.

Yes, it varies from one mfgr to the next, so you have to do your homework and take the ratings with a big 160G bucket of salt.

Not quite related to what you are asking but will be interesting since it will apply to you.

I've always wondered about this topic as well. Maybe my logic is completely wrong but doesn't a larger skimmer (one that has a larger body) need more "dirty water" in order to make enough bubbles to make it all the way up to the collection area? So if you buy a skimmer rated for a 300gallon tank and use it to skim a 100gallon tank you may not get good skimmate unless if you raise the water level way high. Is this correct?

Well I'm using an AquaC EV 240 (rated for 240 gallons ...) on my 90 (with 60 gallon sump) and it does the trick nicely. I just have to clean it less.

I'm not sure what would happen if I tried the H&S on the 90... that is a good question.

The A200 matches up well with any display 180-300g.
