Questions about softies

I have just started the process of setting up my reef. I have all my fish that I want, and just a few coral that I want. For coral right now I have a hairy mushroom, 1 rock with 4-5 red mushrooms, 1 xenia, and 1 little piece of a leather coral. I would like to add a green tree leather from my LFS, and some zoos. Hopefully not to far down the road I would like to add a frogspawn, and some sps corals. Any suggestions or comments? How will the chemical warfare of the softies play a role in placement and what I can or can not add to the tank?

How long has your tank been set up?

My tank has been up and going for about 5 months. All my water levels are fine. My tank is in great shape.

You should be okay with those choices. The only think I'd watch out for is the frogspawn. Give it a decent buffer zone.

What is a buffer zone? Are yu talking about just giving it space to grow away from everything? The frogspawns will sting outher corals, correct? The frag I am looking at is super tiny. Do they grow fast? I have 250w MH for lighting that is on about 11 hours. Will the soft corals sting the sps when I get some of those?

Yes, that is what I meant. Frogspawn can expand quite a bit sometimes and will grow if the conditions are right so it's best to plan for that from the beginning.

you are going to need to keep a close eye on your alk and calcium levels so the frogspawn will do well. I would check them a couple times per week until you get a feel for how much to add.

As far as chemicals go just run carbon and give the corals some breathing room. Don't put the frogspawn "downwind" from the leathers.
