Typically copper is the least of your concerns when it comes to tap water. Usually it is the phosphates (to prevent lead leaching) and nitrates which both fuel nuisant algea growth. There is a DI filter available at the major online retailers that will remove most of everything, but tend to wear out quick and need frequent recharging (~100-200 gallons). A budget RO/DI filter will pay off dividends in the long run and I even was able to hook one up in the apartment when I lived in one. Check out this.

thanks for the reply, and the link, but my main focus will be freshwater so i would like to avoid an ro system if possible. also, my CU levels are just under 0.10, i would say 0.08.

Hi,
I have a copper test kit; its only like $6 online, and well worth it. If you have one already and your sure your readings are correct, go for an RO, else, get the test kit before spending $ on the RO. Paul |

I don't know of a practical way to remove copper other than RO-DI, unless you're willing to use a regenerable DI-only setup like the Kati and Ani.

kati and ani, is that the unlike metal filter with copper and zinc? i think they are also calld kdf. it says it removes copper and other heavy metals, but it also says that it adds some copper.

Kati and Ani just use regular DI resins.

Regular reef carbon will remove copper from tap water. You can buy just about any tap water purification filter that either goes under the sink or something like a Britta filter that sits on the sink to remove copper. For many years I had a 2" PVC pipe filled with carbon and dripped fresh water through it to remove copper.
