I have a 150 and I am very unhappy wiht the plumbing. I sort of have the same question. Right noe my return runs over my overflow and then down to the bottom of the tank and across with small holes for flow and I want to change it. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

the size of your drain pipe is no where as crusial as your return pump pipe. For the return pipe, use the largest dia you can for the longest run. use 1.5 to 2.0" spaflex. I have a 200 gal LPS tank, my sump has 50lbs LR and 36"x18" macro. i used to use Ecosystem, which makes starting up easy, but its costly to run.
