ballast hum
One of my two 400w ballasts is making a loud humming noise. It quieted down quite a bit after the bulb warmed up but it is still pretty loud. Is this common and if so why isnt my other one doing the same?

Brand? Type? (I assume mag as electronic are usually silent)
Not unusual for mag ballasts, then can be buzzy. Why one & not the other? As I mentioned, some do & some don't. If you have the skills you can open it up & try to isloate the parts from the case. Note - Do NOT attempt this unless you're very confident in your DIY electrical skills, they can kill you.
