drain and return
So im at a perdicament, here is what i have a 100g soon to be reef tank. I have a corner overflow with two 1 3/4" holes in the glass bottum and one 1 3/4" on the top side of the overflow box.
So my question is how can i plumb this to get the most drainage and return. options im considering is use 1 hole for a drain and the other a return another is to make two duro stands to drain, and keep the noise down and return the water up the back of the tank another is a some what large duro with one hole the drain and the other to let the air in, and under the two holes and T split and return the water up the back tank. So I am open to suggestions, i would like the most flow with out sounding like niagra falls, but i am not agianst using power heads. |

I can't picture the hole in the overflow. I think though you should use both holes as drains so you can use a large enough pump for an 100 gallon tank. On my 75 gallon I use a mag 9.5 and use both holes as drains. I then plumb it back into the tank from the back and over the top into a manifold. Drilling a hole in the back of the tank is sometimes better though.

the hole in the side of the overflow is about 2 inches below the top of the overflow
do you think a 9.5 would be enough for a return on a 100g? or should i go with a mag 12? and how much presure do i lose if i were to split the return? |
