Getting Ready for Setup

Hi! I am new to the Reef Central. I have an existing 55 Gallon tank that was being used for fresh water and now I would like to move on to a reef tank. I want to have a sump pump however my tank is temper glass. Is there still a way to have a sump pump? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

just use a HOB overflow to drain the water into your sump

This is exactly what i did a couple years back. Word of advise; buy quality/right equipment now and save yourself a huge hassle later on. I cant tell you how many times i tried to "save" or "skimp" on buying certain parts only to find out later i need something bigger or better.

i have bought, skimmer, lights, heater, substrate twice now all because i wanted to save a few bucks in the beginning.

Here is my HOB (Hang On Back) overflow.

I do want to buy quality equipment, however I don't think I should get rid of my 55 gallon tank. Could you explain exactly how the HOB overflow works?

The U tube takes water from your tank and sends it over the side and down to sump.
