which timer to get from home depot?
i'm going to home depot in a couple hours to get a timer(s) for my lights. Which one is the one i should be looking for? I guess its like 8 bucks or something? And does each one only allow for one plug in? For sure i'm getting timers for my aunts 3g pico which has 3x9w pc's. Its 2 fixtures, one being 1x9 and the other is the coralife aqualight 2x9w one. They will be on seperate time schedules (the 1x9 is actinic and 2x9 is daylights) so ya.
And then would those same timers be good for my 4x96 pc fixture? 2 daylights and 2 actinic/blues. So 2 separate balasts and same time schedules. I will however be upgrading to the sunlight supply 4x39w t5 HO's soon hopefully in case that makes any difference. |

the cheapies for $8 i wouldn't buy again. the little spin dial to set the time with totally sucks. if i were buying again i'd upgrade, but that's just me.
there's only 1 plug per cheapie. watch out and make sure you get the right number of prongs too.

why does the spindial suck? I mean, i'm only gonna be putting one time in... Its not like i'm gonna keep switching the time schedules around so i dont care if its not that fast to dial in. I dont care to have it digital either...not like i'm gonna be looking at it.
Basically as long as i can get my lights to turn on, run for 10/12 hours, then shut off, i'm happy w/it. And what about those cheap marineland ones that you see at petco or whatever? They're also dial ones. I've already tried the coralife power center one (which i found out sucks AFTER i bought it) and it doesnt even let me get the time schedules right. Tried one other digital one a while ago (cant remember name brand) and had same issue. Overall i'm not impressed w/the digital ones that are AFFORDABLE so far

Right now lowes (at least the one in my area) has the digital timers that are peach in color, 5.00 off.
Probably because they are ugly, but who cares they're gonna be hidden anyway. I they were 10.49 w/taxes. I bought 3 of them.

I set my digitals up last night.
I love the fact that they have battery back up to keep the correct time and settings in the event of a power outage.

Abynum1, what kind did you get? I have had the same problem. Where my tank is located I only have one wall socket so I use a regular power strip and I manually turn my lights off and on by the switches on the top of the tank . But I would like to have a timer that will turn my actinic on first then an hour later my daylights!

Westek Heavy duty digital timer
The white ones were like 15.00 (before taxes)but the peach ones were marked down to 10.49 after taxes.

Can you program it to turn the different outlets on at different times?

It only has one outlet so I had to get 4.
(Blues, whites, lunars, and fuge.) All the multi outlet timers I've read about seem to get bad reviews on this forum due to safety reasons. I also bought the power strip liberators off of ebay to save space on the power strip. I love those things. Heres a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300079344916

Ok that make sense now!!! You have a power strip and use the liberators to connect the timers to the power strip. Thanks for the link I am going to look into buying some right now!
