red algae
hello
my 24 g nano cube has been running for around 6 monts i have recently discovered red algae and air bubbles on my live rock. when i get home from work i have to brush this off with a tootthbrush, this method works easily, but i want to know if anything will do it for me. what is the algae ,why is there bubbles and what would clean this up for me? thanks guys |

Are you using RODI water? Sounds like Cyano algae, its very common. Check your phosphates and use RODI if you can. I wouldn't brush it off with a tooth brush your better of trying to remove it from the tank. Brushing it off will just cause it to spread faster. Unless you pull the rock out and brush it outside of the tank. There's some kind of chemical that you can use I can't remember the name though. It wipes it out pretty quickly however if you dont find the source of the problem it'll probably just come back. How old are your bulbs? A lot of times when the bulbs need to be replaced their color changes to a spectrum that allows algae to grow better.
