wrapping needlepoint plastic around my heater??

My gbta has been walking the last few days. just moved it to a new tank so im not suprised.

Ive been getting up everynight to make sure its ok. once i foubd it wrapped around the heater. i unplugged it, and it wasent heating at the time.

Today i went and got some more plastic from the fabric store, is it ok to wrap it around my heater? could it melt? will it block the heat so it doesent work?

thanks!!

I would say dont do it. If the plastic heats up you wont know what it releases into the water. Its time to get a sump.

Just make a loose ring of it, or use it, bent, to fence off that area of the sump. It's polystyrene, I think, like a water bucket. I use it all over the place, though I've never used it flush up against a heater.

You could have one heater at one end of your sump and the other downstream, at the other.

If you want it in the tank maybe build an eggcrate type enclosure for it so water can still flow through.

With my 90 I only run 1 500W Titanium heater in the sump. My sump temp is usually 81.5 and my tank temp stays around 80.
