mysterious fish death
In the last 6 mo. I have lost 2 expensive wrasse, one an eight line flasher, the other a fancy scott's wrasse, to no apparent reason. Both had been in my tank about 2 months when they died. Both seem to go in a very short period with no warning. I have many other healthy fish in the tank including other wrasses that have literaly been in there for years. I am stumped as to why they died. The only item that I can figure is that I normally feed them after the atinics have been on for about a hour in the morning. Some times the sand burying varieties are not up yet and miss the feeding. When this happens, I try to do another feeding that evening. This usually happens 2-3 times a week. These guys may have missed a day or 2 feeding, but that's it. I've been feeding a varity of frozen foods as well, including mysis, brine and mixed reef foods. Stumped.
I found him on the sand being chowed down by the cleanup crew. No apparent change. All water parameters are right on and everyone else including the sensitive items like a GBTA, shrimp, SPS corals are all fine. Any wrasse experts out there?
