Just curious, why do you feel the need to modify a Tunze? I thought these where the pinnacle of water movement.

I certainly don't want to go off too much but in short Tunze 6025 has a mechanism to restrict the flow to around 700gph so it can be used in a nano tank, once that mechanism is removed, the flow increases to nearly 1200gph without changes in appearance and power consumption.

The mod for the MJ 1200 can push 2000 gph not 1200.

I can't locate any info on modding a 6025. All my searches turn up threads like this. Any links to how to do this?

TIA

Can't beat 1200gph at 7W. I am sure like the MJ the 6025 can drive a bigger prop for more flow but no one has tried that yet since it will void the 2-year warranty.

CaptRon, here is the Tunze mod link:

You maybe right on the 7 watt compared to a MJ1200 20 watts, I cant calculate that into a cost savings. Ha!

Mjmods says the 1200 high flow mod can push 2400 gph. I havent done the test on mine someone may be able to confirm this. But for those that have larger tanks you would need twice as many modded tunzes as MJs which would become unsightly and bulky for someone who needed 6-8 tunzes instead of 3-4 MJs like myself. Trying to make apples to apples here.

Not until you start to use bigger prop on a Tunze but we just don't know. In fact I was tempted to slap a higher pitched prop I had left from my MJ mod but decided not to do it because of the warranty issue.

When the shroud was off of the Tunze I could tell the flow was very big, my estimate was at least close to 2000gph, so it should be able to drive a bigger prop.

Can you get a Tunze and modify it for $50 total? I didn't think so.
7w vs 20w...who cares?

That kind of electricity can really add up for us out here in California.

20wx4=80

7wx4=28

24 hrs a day

Not only that, now you have an equivalent of a 80-28=52W heater in your tank. That may get your tank to cross the threshold and in need of a chiller

I have no problem with MJMod, I did it myself, but I would no longer consider it the best $50 can buy.
