What is going on with this lion
My lion will not eat and its starting to scare me. We got him on sat and he was shipped her so was in transit for a day so he has not eating since friday morning at the earliest. Hes swimming around in my tank but will not eat. We have tried krill, frozen mussles and frozen squid. This is all what the fish store had him eating. He is not interested at all in any food we put in the tank. Tried wiggling it in front of him and nothing. He swims around lots in the evening but never in the day. Is this normal for a dwarf lion. Thanks.

hate to say it but if it comes down to it, try ghost shrimp or something else alive...mine got to where that was ALL he would eat, so that's why i say it as kind of a last case scenario (also it's not a healthy diet)

unfortunately i lot of fish collection companies use cyanide to stun the fish in order to catch them. they will appear to be healthy early on in their capture, but within a couple of weeks they stop eating as their digestive system was slowing being broken down by the cyanide. this likely is not the case, though and i as Radiohead recommend try feeding them feeder guppies or some other sort of live treats. ghost shrimp would probably be appropriate for a dwarf lion.
good luck!!

What's the problem? Get a bigger refugium, treat him like a mandarin!
![]() If you bought the fish and had it shipped to you, the seller may have lied about it eating frozen foods. What kind of lion is it? |

This dealer would not lie to me. And its a dwarf lion. And im sure it will eat much more and much faster then a mandrin. Im sure it wont be long befor there all gone and i have to feed him something live or frozen that he wont take now.

I take care of a young Fuzzy Dwarf at the LFS I work at. I've been feeding him ghost shrimp and small guppies, which he hunts down pretty quick.
I wonder if soaking the frozen food in garlic would help. Maybe the dealer did something like that.

both my dwarf lions would only eat ghost shrimp. though the shrimp have no nutritional value themselves you can gut load them before you feed them to the fish. put the shrimp in a small container and feed flake food to them. when their stomachs are full feed them to the fish. all the nutrition of the flake food is then passed to the fish.

Dawrf Lions can be a little tricky to feed and you really just need to be a little more patient and let him acclimate to his new surroundings. If a few more days go by you're just going to have to bite the bullet and stick with trying to get him to eat live food. Starting 3 threads in 3 days on the same subject isn't going to make you Lion eat and more readily.
