Power strips and fires
Been back into reefs over 2 yrs and never had a problem till the last 2 mths. First a sump fan switch heated up and set fire to the fan and burned it up. Then today I get home from work flip on the TV and get hit with a wave of burning electronics smell again. Notice my sons room is filled with smoke. Run in and his power strip is on fire as well as it melted the timers cases in the process. It powered the lights on a AP 24g tank and thats all. No water got in it or anywhere near it to cause this. I always use drip loops for this possible problem anyways. Nothing was laying on it and the built in circuit breaker never even tripped. Wife is none to happy and less than thrilled about 2 close fire calls especially since we will be selling this house in near future. Anyone know of a good reliable power strip that I can use for lights for lower current PC lights. I want one that will trip if there is a problem down the road. I have all the heaters, pumps and etc in his room on a GFCI circuit but these were not since 2 timers can not fit on the wall plate at same time and this was plugged into a non GFCI circuit. I may just redo the plugs so the whole room is on the load side from the GFCI receptacle and not the last 2 but still need a power strip.
Any suggestions would be great and it needs to fit 2 timers on it for PC lights (They are (were) the Heavy Duty timers) Heres the damage today....
