Closed loop help

so my OR 6500 pump and super squirt with the Version 3 drum which has them open in this order, 1 & 3, 4 & 2, repeated

are on thier way i want to head to home depot to get the pvc i need

So my question is, the outlets, should i get them all 90 degree elbow or some 45 to kick up on the sand, or a mixture of both. Also in which directions to point them in. I kinda want SPS on top and softies on bottum

I have a crude drawin here of the top and front view of my CL, i also put in there my tenative rock scape.

Use 90's on each end, just don't glue them down so you can turn them any way you want.

Another question i have is, im using the basic idea of melvs reef CL but alot more expanded. Anyways my qutions is he drilled 1/8" holes in his intakes, which is drawn by a Mag 5

Mine will have a OR 6500 which is about 1700gph, should i make the holes bigger? or making them every 1/2" with a longer intake be fine?

I dont want to starve my pump

You could make the holes a little larger or longer intake, either one would do. I upped the pump to a mag7 and added another 2" of holes on the intake.

You DO NOT want the sand to be disturbed. That's a whole nuther set of problems. Direct the flow so it won't violate the sanctity of the sandbed!!

Oh, you might want to think about a ball valve on your return line. I think 17oogph is too much unless you have a 6' tank to spread the flow out to. With the ball valve, you can cut down the flow if it happens to be too strong.

rafa316 check out www.melevsreef.com. A closed loop is to add flow to a tank without the powerheads in the tank.

I have been kicking around a bigger tank, and one of my thoughts was a closed loop... but with the returns plumbed through the sand and pointed up at 45 degrees. Or maybe a couple from the bottom, and some on top, as in this plan. I thought this would add good flow from the bottom up, and help keep things suspended longer.

But I never see anyone plan cl with some returns from the sand bed.

Is this a bad idea, or just too much work... or a good idea?
