Algea - PhytoPlankton?

If I scrape my glass clean from algae by means of a magnetic window scraper, is that algae that gets released in to the water column the same as for example marine snow or some other phytoplankton addition you would normally throw in to the tank?

Though it feeds some of your animals it is not the same as phytoplankton. Photoplankton is considerably smaller than most of what you scrape off of the glass.
