Eggcrate in Sand

i want to put some of that egg crate lighting stuff on the bottum of my tank and then about a 1" of sand then on top of that put in my LR's then fill 2" more of sand. Does this sound like a bad idea.

The reason i want to do this is hoping to and some stability to rocks but mostly to relieve the pressure of the rocks more spread out.

I would just use the eggcrate where you are going to place the rock. Just for support.

I was under the impression that placing eggcrate on the bottom in your sand bed can lead to a nitrate problem.
