Asm skimmer question
So I realize this may be borderline, but I dont know much about modded asm skimmers. Would a g3 with mesh mod, and recirculating with the stock sedra, and a mj1200 feed properly skim a 120g with a 70g or so sump? I plan on keeping a mixed reef with mostly sps and lps, and a moderate fish load.
Thanx, Steve |

I'm running a recirc G3 and wouldn't dream of using it on a system of almost 200gal with mostly SPS.

I have a G3 running on a 76G Half Circle, with around a 20-25G sump, and I'm debating getting something different.
I have did the gate valve mod a while ago and it did improve foaming and pulling stuff. I just did the mesh wheel mod today, and its actually not foaming as well as it did with the needle wheel. I'm going to give it more time though, as its only been about 2-3 hours. The last thing I'll do is try the recric mod to see if that'll help out more. If not, I'm gonna move to a EuroReef, or something a lot better.

So I would be curious as to how one judges a skimmer. My stock G3 seems to make tons of skimate.

I ran an G3, no mods, standard Sedra5000 pump on a 125 mixed tank, medium stocked with a fuge. Didn't have any problems.

My best friend has a G3 with recirc and he mesh modded it a few months ago. This skimmer ran on a 90g RR with a 55g sump. He had no issues with it working. IMO it was big enough to handle the job. In the beganing he fed it from one of the overflow drains. Now he has it running on a 55 NOT RR tank with a 30g sump and is feeding it with a maxijet 1200. However both of us think anything any bigger would be to much. He has order a 240g rr and is go with an Octopuss 250 recirc and will feed it through one of his drain line again.
