Lace rock

Is lace rock bad to use in saltwater tanks?? If so, why?

It can have high iron levels, which i guess after asking here can cause hair alga. I did have lace rock, and i did have hair alga....i was advised to remove the lace rock (for that reason) and all the rest of the HA started slowly dieing (nitrates/phosphates were not the cause, i didnt have either of them).
