Exclamation Can someone help me with this problem?

I purchase a couple turbo snail to help with Red Turf Algae and two were suck together for three days. Well one of the other two finally moved today. This morning I noticed that the tank had a rotten smell and had become cloudy. I found out one of those turbo snails was dead and so rotten when I took it out of the tank I had to open all the windows in the house and can't get the smell off my hand!!!! I am worried about what this is going to do to may tank.
.........................................................................

I just tested the water and the amm. is up to .50 I already did a water change today because I thought that I over feed and that was why the water looked so cloudy. BUT that was before I found the dead snail.

Help, I don't want my tank to crash or anything.

yeah in a small tank like that things will happen fast. Probably get another water change ready. Not sure what else you can do.

I've had three snails on top of each other when I get the home. I haven't pulled them apart but maybe this is a good reason to.

You did take the time to acclimate the snails right?

Peter

Do you have a skimmer? If you do, turn it up and skim wet for a few days. If you don't.... get one!

I know it's too late but if you had a couple of hermit crabs in the tank they would have eaten the dead snail before it had a chance to rot. I would suggest picking up a couple when your water gets back straight.

Can you provide us with some tank stats? How long has it been running, what kind of filtration do you have (if any), what other livestock is in it, etc...

If its established then it shouldn't crash, there should be enough bacteria to deal with it. But test the water again tomorrow or late tonight to see if the ammonia is decreasing or increasing. Then use that to gage your next move. Regardless I'd do another change tomorrow (no more then 20%). But I'm no expert.

*I change out filter floss with water changes
*running since 12-20-06
*12 lbs live rock (cured), very small cycle
*12 lbs agra live sand
*No skimmer
*20% water changes done weekly
*Clean up crew added 1-16-07 (4 hermits, 2 margarita snails, 1 astrea snail)
* Lawnmower Blenny added 1-31-07
* Blood Shrimp Added 2-8-07
* Peppermint Shrimp Added 2-22-07

Here is where the problem started! Two orders arrived on same day. This was not suppose to happen!

3-6-07 Added False Purcula Clown and candy cane coral. Same day Added 3 mushrooms, and I ordered 4 cerith snail to come in with the shroom and they added 2 more cerith and tossed in 7 blue legged hermit for the hell of it I guess!

Eveyone seems to be doing ok so far!

P.S. I did acclimate them all by drfostersmith.com directions.
