Hello all, I am setting up a new refugium and was wondering if its better to put mud in it or is live sand good enough?? Or both?? Neither??? something else??? Thanks in advance for the help

depends on the purpose of the sump.
if you are trying to provide a space for copepods to grow, then mud would help, they like smaller particles... if you want a DSB, denitrification can occur in shallower depths with mud versus larger sand particles... other then that, doesn't matter much.

I've added miracle mud to my sump/refuge setup, I haven't added the chaeto yet, however I noticed a lot of small coral polyps and feather dusters popping up on my live rock (haven't added corals yet) and I've seen my emerald crab more than I used to. HTH

I like live sand better... I dont think that the mudd is cracked up to what it is supposed to be!

the mud only cracks up when it dry..
