skimmer efficiency in relation to pH
I hope this is considered an advanced topic. If not, please move it accordingly.
Recently my skimmer basically stopped skimming and I could not figure out why. Everything in my tank was checking out, or at least I thought. Come to find out my pH test kit was off. I was reading it as being 8.1-8.1. A friend came out with his pinpoint and measured it to be ~7.75. I buffered and noticed my skimmer having more activity. Knowing that pH is formally dependent upon the activity of hydrogen[1] ions (H+), what is the relationship to H+ and organics? Does skimming strip H+ out of the water and thus reducing pH? Or is there any relationship at all? I'm curious how these affect each other. -Ryan Last edited by rsteagall; 03/12/2007 at 08:36 PM. |
