Im thinking just about any tang would love that for a snack. Why don't you like it i think it would look nice in the fuge as long as its not sending spores into your display.

Looks like red graciliara. Tangs love that stuff they say (my tank is too small for a tang, so I can't verify that).

that's exactly what i'm a little concerned with. it hasn't trespassed into my display yet but i sure don't want it to. i do have a PBT in the display that probably be quite happy if it did...

i kinda thought it might be red graciliara but i wasn't sure..
do you think a 15g fuge would be to small to put a tang in to keep it in check??? jk

It doesnt look like a Gracilaria species to me just going by size and structure of the algae from what I can see in the photos. There are literally hundreds of candidate for the ID of what you've got. Most red algae are palatable to reef herbivores, including surgeonfishes, rabbitfishes and most of the reef snails we keep like mexican turbos, Astrae and such.

Try any one of these to help curtail the bloom of it in addition to hand harvesting. You could also try to outcompete this particular algae species by introducing and establishing another more desirable macroalgae such as Ulva or Chaetomorpha (two of the easiest).

Good luck!
