Silly overflow question

Using RC's wonderful overflow/drain calculator, I've determined that I need a 1" bulkhead and 9 linear inches of overflow. Therefore, if I make an overflow box in the corner of the tank that is 6" on the long side and 3" on the short, this is my 9 linear inches, right? In other words, the 9" don't have to be all on a single side of the overflow box, correct?
