Return Pump help
I have a 90 gal upstairs and am putting an 100 gal sump in the base ment. Which will give me about a 9 ft head loss. What size pump do you guys/gals recommend??
Thanks, Justin Castellano |

Check out the head loss calculator on RC
http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/hlc2.php Your best bet is getting something that will provide more flow then you need and have a ball valve to fine tune the flow. My sump is in the basement as well, about 14' and I use a MAG36 to get around 500gph. Good luck. |

with a 100g sump, I would shoot for about 400gph or so.
I would probably use an Iwaki md-30rlt. You will also be losing some throughput from the pipe itself and any elbows, etc. Pete |

I was looking at a mag 24. Do you think this may suffice or am I better off going with an external pump??

Mags are not pressure pumps. You are better off with an external.
