New Y.S.Maroons. Whats Next? PICS

I have a 24g tank, and the temps are at 78. I wanted a catalina golby, but the water is not cold enough. Any ideas on a colorful fish that would do well with the clowns.

I don't know of any other fish to put in with GBM's. 2 of those in a 24 is a lot by themselves. They get very large, the female will get to be 6". They are also very aggressive and will attack almost any other fish you put in there. I keep mine in a 75g with other aggressive fish. She will try to bite me when I put my hand in the tank. I know that's not what you want to hear, but I'm afraid other fish won't do very well with them at all.

These seem to be not very aggressive at all. They both do not try to bite me at all. They are very playful with each other, and really enjoy the bta. She seems to have come alive with them playing in her tentacles.

They may seem nice now but adding anything else will be next to impossible. Plus you pretty much have your bioload for the tank so you should really only add something small if you have to but anything small will likely get the crap kicked out of them. My maroon in a four foot tank chases and attacks every fish I add. Bad choice for a first fish but they do have great personality.

They will inevitably kill any fish you add IMO.

How do you determine Bioload?

There are no set numbers on number of fish per tank, but rather it depends on the aggressiveness of the animals, what size they are, what size they will grow to and the number of gallons/amount of rock + corals.

The more fish you have, the more/better skimmer you will want, plus the more water they have, the less stressed they will be..

It pretty much boils down to research and asking questions..

Hope this helps!

I have GSMs in a 10gal with a pair of yasha gobies. I also have tangoroa gobies with a pair of tomato clowns. I also have a pair of hi-fin gobies with a pair of mated black saddlebacks.

I think you get the picture.

you have 10 fish in a 10 gallon Mimic? That seems like a really high bio load...

I am assuming they are in a separate tank.

My LFS just adopted a retired pair of breeding maroons that are in the neighborhood of 25 years old.. The female, honestly, is almost the size of a football. She's bigger than 6" and the male is pretty tiny compared to her but... In a 10g she'd hardly be able to turn around..

Hope you have plans to upgrade in the future or put them in better care.. for the 24g I wouldn't add any more. Maybe an anemone if you have MH lighting on the tank .. *maybe* a yellow watchman goby that can hide in the rock work from them... but yeah, you'll have your hands full

Nice looking clowns! Yeah, I'd be hesitant to put something with them in the 24 if you plan on having it for a long time. They don't get any friendlier with age. Mainly my female has an attitude but it's starting to wear off on the male now too. They get pi$$ed off if I don't feed them on time much less do anything else to the tank!

I've only got a purple dottyback in with mine, in my 38 gallon. They don't bother eachother at all. Sometimes my the little male chases him off but there's rarely any altercations.
I've kept 4 but disaster always strikes the extra one. Seems like it never fails. Whatever the Maroons will tolerate, the dottyback won't. So I've left my fish count at 3 now.

I thought my maroon clown was nice also before I added a six line wrasse and yellow watchman goby. The wrassse was fine, but the goby was killed within a day. The clown would have left him alone, but the goby was swimming all over the tank, not hiding all all. He wandered into the clown's territory and the clown literally ripped the goby's mouth off. He didn't last long after that. My clown is less than 3" long.
