moving a clam once the foot is attached?

I realize now that I don't like where my clam is located...even though it seems to. It's foot is attached to a large rock. Is there a way to move it without damaging it or should I leave it alone?

I wish I could help that is going to be tricky. Maybe one of the reefers in this forum can help you.

Thanks but I haven't gotten any responses yet! I think they have heard this question too many times! I am unable to use the search function and I haven't seen any threads answering my question yet!

I'll give it a shot for you in search. I'll be back to post anything that might be helpful.

I have the same problem in some forums.

There were over 7 pages referencing moving clams. The few that I could understand simply said to lean it over. That seems really strange to me but I'm not a clam person. I did see your thread and it is early here still so give it some more time before you do anything. I think you'll be able to get something from that forum. You'll get response from here also and take all the input you can before making any decisions.
Sorry I wasn't able to help you more.

I have read that the only way is to get it to move itself. The simplest and least stressful way suggested was to change the flow around it. The clam has settled there because it is aq good feeding spot. If the food moves so will it. May take a little time but you should eventually come home and find the clam sitting in your sand bed somewhere.

Good luck..

When my crocea was smaller and I needed to remove it from the rock/tank to feed it in a bowl I would turn it gently from side to side, and roll it back and forth gently as to not rip the byssal threads or gland out. If you still cannot free the clam cut it's byssal threads as close to the rock as possible with a very sharp knife, I used an exacto knife. I have moved mine quite a few times and it is doing very well for about 2 years now.

You can do a search on clams direct forums, that is were I learned this method a while back.

depending on how flat the rock its attached to, you could use a credit card and gently rock it back and forth...has worked me
