Aqua-c EV 150 externally?

Hello all! I am going to be getting an aqua-c ev 150 soon, and was wondering if it could be plumbed externally? The out put is lower on this, and I was wondering if it was below the waterline in my sump, would it effect the back-pressure?
Thanks in advance for any input, as well as thoughts on this skimmer in genral! By the way, its going on a 65 gallon that will be a mixed reef.
