It depends on what you want to do. Why do you want a sump, to have more water volume? To grow macroalgae? To house unsightly equipment?
To be honest, a sump on an aquarium that small isn't very practical. An internal pump would introduce quite a bit of heat, and it'd be tough to find one small enough that would a.) fit, b.) not be to strong, and c.) not intake air from the loss of water due to evaporation. To be honest, I'd suggest finding a way to have a bigger tank. But if you really want a sump, I'd probably go with a mag3 or a mag1.5 for the return pump, get a small light source and grow some chaeto. Don't drill the tanks, not the sump nor the display. The glass is too thin and will most definitely break. HTH
