Clear/white sacks on glass
Hi, I'm on my second week of my first reef tank, so I'm at the stage where I'm asking what every little thing is that pops up unexpectedly. Unfortunately, googling reef critters has me racking my brain.
I have clear football shaped sacks attached at one end to the glass. They have a round white core that looks like eggs but they are very small, the entire thing is maybe a millimeter. They're rubbery and hard to rub off. Very loose clutches from the surface down 4 or 5 inches, doesn't match what I've found for Astrea or Nassarius which are the only things present in this 8 gallon as far as we know, besides small fan worms and some tiny white bugs. Thanks in advance for wisdom. Cheap cameras with auto focus really stink, this is the best I can get... (these are on the inside of the front glass, not on the ph) |

Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but what you describing sounds like sponges which are filter feeders and are great to have. Those little white bugs are pods.

Beats me, I wish I could get a close up. I do have sponges I suppose, that's probably what those pink and opaque little globs that are in the crevices of my LR. Perhaps these are some type of larvae that have congregated in the PH flow? I saw something similar by googling 'sponge larvae' but they don't match. Guess I have a reason to get another microscope.
From what I can see, they are shaped like a shark purse, they're firmly attached like eggs and I can squish the white nucleus out. I can't imaging what they could belong to if they are eggs, there's not much rock for something to hide in but strange things do happen. |

Ok, I have pretty good eyes, I'm able to get about five inches from them and still focus. From what I can see, I was able to make this pic up.

Be VERY carefull when Squishing things in the tank. People have been know to go into anafalactic shock after squishing a nudibranch. Always use gloves when workning in the tank.
