siphon overflow

hi guys,

i was wondering if there is a problem with putting a ball valve on the line coming from the siphon overflow, would that disrupt the siphon? just wondering because i am trying to split a 20 gallon long into a sump/refung and i need the water flow in the refung to be slower.

I dont see a problem with that as long as you dont have a valve on both the sump and refugium lines, if 1 gets clogged it will just drain to the other
