Turbo Snales? Why?
Hello guys/gals,
I just bought about 12 Turbo snales for my Bio-cube 29gal. tank. What should I count on these guys to do for my tank? Algae eaters of coarse. But are they going to clean my rocks as well as the glass? Are there any negatives to having them in my tank. I only have the snales right now and no other life except the Live Rock and Live sand. Im trying to do this in stages. Should i stock my tank with anything else right now or am i good with the snales for a little bit? |

I would stick to what you have. Turbos are good snails for cleaning glass, rock, and the like. Down the road you might want to add a nassarius or two for the sandbed. Don't add too many as they might starve. Just add as the tank demands.

Good cleaners but bulldozers for snails! And kind of an eye soar in a small tank imo.

the smaller Astraea Turbo Snail or the larger Mexican Turbo Snail If we're talking about Astraeas, 12 is a decent number for now... if we're talking Mexican Turbo, then 1 or 2 (3 max) in a 29g. I agree with Drummer, for now you are OK, let the tank mature a bit to make sure you don't suffer snail die-off before adding more critters... then do it SLOWLY to allow the biofilter (LR, sand, etc.) to catch up.

I truely hope you're not talking about mexican turbos. I got one about the size of a golf ball and he keeps my 20G tank in check solo and I sometimes wonder about him starving.

One thing about Mexican turbos, the are a cooler water snail. They like to die off if the tank temp gets too high.
