carbon only?

I was told to remove the foam out of my aquaclear filter. I also run carbon and chemipure in the other aquaclear filter? Should I do this?

Carbon and chemipure are fine. The sponges aren't really needed in a system with live rock, and if not maintained will be bad for your tank. Most professionally designed systems avoid the sponges and filter socks.

I run an aquaclear just for carbon myself. I find mechanical media unnecessary. I would remove it. Like Shags said, if not cleaned on a regular basis you will get a nitrate problem.
