bought some really nice rock ......and a suprise

I bought about 40lbs of rock that was already established from previous tank . I had been admiring it for a few days and.................wow I notice a small Octopus as a hitchhiker !!!

I am excited , but dont know a thing about them ? What should I do ?

feed it and make sure there is NO holes for it to escape.

also, post a picture, its good for the octopus's health.

Many people don't know this trick but I used to date a girl that worked at Mystic Aquarium and this worked for them.

Octopus' are exceptionally strong and smart. They'll virtually always get out of a tank, the best way to keep them inside is to take some of that fake astroturf you can get and place it around your aquarium so they can't get a suction. If this don't work or you actually want to look into your tank you're going to need to cover your tank and put some serious weight on it (we're talking cinder block here)

On the cool side if you put a crab in a jar with a plastic lid with a few holes in it the octopus will learn to open the jar to eat the crab

If you do have an Octopus you may want to find out what kind the Blue ring one is very poisonous/venomous as Drix said they are VERY smart, he will also clean your tank out as far as livestock, so very cool if its an empty with live rock only tank, not so good if you have livestock in there already
