Brass Hood Hinges
Hi all,
Following the brass post a few days ago, I didn't realise that I myself had been using a hood with brass coated stainless steel hinges. The tank has been set-up now for over three months and there is a fair bit of rust around the hinges. I've covered them temporarily with plastic, so there's no way of copper getting into the tank. My question is... How long would it take for any potential coppor that's got into the system to take an effect? At the mo, I'm hoping that nothing has got into the system. I currently have several corals including: - Mushrooms - Several different polyps - Several different tubeworms - Pulsing Xenia - Finger Coral - Leather Toadstool - Maxima Clam - A few different Brains. - LTA (too soon I know! ![]() All are doing really well. Is it fair to assume that I've got lucky? Surely it would have taken affect by now. I am only talking about a few specs of rust at worst. Many thanks in advance for your advice. |

well as you suspect there is Cu in brass it just depends on how much is in there. when trying to determine Cu content in brass it usually takes acidic persuasion to get the Cu to come out of the brass to Cu2+ i would exchange hinges to something diffrent and as a safe measure to cover your investment toss in a Cu absorbing media.
