emergency question

I just noticed a leak in my wet/dry filter. It's leaking somewhere on the bottom seems. I'm worried about going to sleep and wakening up to a mess of water and damaged equipment. My question is this, I can shut off the ball valves on my drains, turn off my return pump, and insump protien filter. This will prevent above concerns. How long can the tank go without my filters running? My plans are to run out in the morning and purchase a replacement, probably a refuge insstead of a W/D. The tank would have to servive on my two Koralia 4's (1,200 gph) for water movement and 160lbs of L/R for filtration. Will I be okay or should I monitor all night and cut off the filter only if it get worst? I'd appreciate a quick response, thanks in advance.

all you need in your tank is LR, water movement and heat. i ran for a year with no sump and no skimmer with no fish deaths.

You should be fine.

Remeber to bring up your heater if it's down in the sump. Your tank will run cooler possibly...

Yea, as long as there is a heater and powerheads in your tank you will be fine over night -- get some sleep and deal with it in the AM.

Good luck.

Good thought on the heater, almost forgot. I guess I won't take a chance then, I'll cut the flow to the sump now. Anything else I may be over looking?

This would be a good time to clean out any siphon breaks you may have. I shut the main filter down about once a month to make sure that the siphon breaks are able to perform their task should the need arise.

Also I was planning on replcing the W/D with a refuge anyway, any recommendations? I have a mix reef, lightly stocked right now. It will be on a 120aga and will need to house a Protien Skimmer, heater, U/V, and return pump.

Make your own sump. It is pretty easy -- I've made 3 for my 3 tanks.

If you have questions I will try to answer them in the AM, battery is going, and my sleeping pill is kicking in.

It was my plan to make my own originally. But now I don't feel I have the time. I emailed my boss to take tomorrow off but will need to go back to work on friday.
