Just about to finish my refugium/sump and was wondering what the best light for my application is. I'd like something low wattage and fairly inexpensive, but have seen differing recomendations from a coralife dual 9W light setup, to a single 16W flourescent floodlight setup. The coralife has a rating of 10000K and the floodlight has 5100K. What does that rating mean for light qaulity? I will just be growing the typical macro algae in the refugium with live rock and mud.
Thanks. |

Just go to a hardware store such as HD and pick up a spiral 90 watt full spectrum daylight bulb. They run in a regular light fixture and only use 26watts. The macro will love the full spectrum.

the higher the kelvin number the bluer light spectrum, for a fuge you want to use a lower # daylight bulb around 6500k
