Skimmer questions

I bought this sealife skimmer from a local guy, and am hoping to get it tuned in soon. I have a couple of questions about it and hope someone out there knows, since sealife isn't around anymore.
1. Any idea which model it is?
2. How big of a pump do I need? Right now, I'm putting about 750gph through it, but not getting enough bubbles (it's a meshwheel pump). Is that due to needing to break in on my tank?
3. Is the riser on the left side necessary? It seems extraneous to me to push the water up and then back down into the chamber. Could it be cut down and still be effective?

Thanks in advance.

this unit looks like a downdraft/becket style skimmer to me, but you are using a needlewheel.
