Lightbulb Is it an either/ or type thing?

I see alot of people with tanks dominated by particular types of corals. For instance, having a tank filled with SPS ie Acropora/Montipora. Some people stock mostly LPS or even just a bunch of softies. Is this due to preference or is it just that difficult to keep many diff types of corals. With the lighting, flow, and feeding needs being specific to each coral. By different corals I of course mean LPS, SPS, Softies, and polyps.

Mainly preference, but there is difficulty in trying to successfully house a wide array of corals.

I think it's more prefrence. I have a little of each in my 72 G and have mainly Monti cap's with a few LPS in my 400.

It's not as cut and dry as being either or but there can be problems mixing corals. For instance, chemical warfare it possible when keeping softies with stoney corals. Then of course there are the varying environments corals can thrive in that make mixing difficult at times..

it's more of a competition thing. So generally each type only like to tolerate it's own kind. 2 none aggressive types may be together or an aggressive maybe able to be separated from the non aggressive type.

For me it's preference. I like all the different colors of zoos and rics so that is all I am doing. You do get chemical warfare when trying a lot of different corals. Especially once they grow out and near each other.

I would say it is preference. But keep in mind that you won't use the same lightning and flow for LPS than for some SPS.

That means more money to spend and sometimes it can make an impact on your choice.
