Expensive Fish

Checking out Ebay today, I came across this.....
Gem Tang
I may have to pick up a couple for my nano tank (just kidding). Any fish that costs more than my house note is a tad too costly for me.

That's actually cheap. LA usually lists them at $2999.99

Is it just me, or is a $25 Kole tang much better looking than that tang?

I agree its a nice looking fish, but I don't think I would ever spend that much for a fish. I also agree that there are better looking fish for much less. (maybe its one of those "status" fish lol).

Someone, I don't remember who, in the large tank forum had a pic of 5 or 6 of them shoaled up in one of his previous tanks. It was pretty cool, but I agree that there are less expensive and better looking tangs to be had

Even the almighty www.liveaquaria.com was asking $3500 for these when they had some in stock awhile back.
That tells me that $1800 isnt that bad of a deal....even if is local pick-up only.
I hate to say it but this is the rarest commercial tang you will see available and the price is set to match it.

"This is the most frequently requested fish in any store, the rarest fish on earth."

Im gonna go ahead and say I have requests for seahorses and flame angels much more frequently than I do gemmatums. Im also willing to bet the boyles and clipperton angels, and coelacanth might have something to say about the gem being the rarest fish on earth.
Nor have I ever seen them retail for $4000 before. Whatever. If they were lucky enough to get a hold of 50 gems, good for them- I just hope their husbandry is better than their marketing.
