Question for a Ocean Runner 2500 or 3500 owner

Can someone with experience with these pump tell me what is the foot print on them? I want to use one with my Mega-Flow 3 sump and the pump compartment is only 4" wide.

A 3500 with its bracket and suction cups is 7"L x 5.75"WX 6"H. A 2500 is about 6" L x 5"W x 5"H.

Try a Mag 7 with the base removed and rotate the impeller housing if necessary. In my experience Mags are inexpensive, super reliable and SMALL. R

And loud, power hogs and run hot. You might try an Eheim if the OR won't fit.

I replaced my 2 year old Mag 7 with a OR 2500 to cut down on heating the tank. The OR worked great for about 6 months then would start reliably. The old Mag is back in the sump again. The Ehiem is huge and no more efficient than the Mag. I have tested them--have you?? R

My mag7 was loud and hot, got rid of it and got a Ocean Runner 2500.Sweet ,cant even hear it run.Not to mention less watts=less heat.

My Ocean Runner 2500 is not silent. It's OK just they are talked up so much on this site I was expecting more. Mags get a bad rap here IMO. They pump better under head pressure and are just as reliable as any other in my experience. You can get them to run quieter if you put a pad or foam of some sort under them. The only reason my Ocean runner is quieter than the mags I have used is they sit on suction cups to absorb any motion. Mags do use significant more watt's and are not cheap. As far as heat goes, more pumping power= more watts=more heat. A pump that uses less watts and theorfore gives off less heat will pump less gallons per hr no matter what they claim. So it's a matter of whats best for a perticular set up. JMHO.

Thats not true. Inefficient designs can and do draw more power and pump less water, the Mag is a perfect example. I am in the process of testing any pump I can get my hand on and am going to put together a nice spread sheet when I am done. I have been disappointed with the Eheim so far as I also expected more out of it based on opinions. I have found the OR to be right on the money with manufacturers claims as far as watts and head. I only have a Mag2 and a Mag5 for testing so far but hope to borrow others soon.
