IC ballasts: trouble restarting after power outtage...

My power just flickered off and on which cut my IC 175w MH ballast off, which is fine. But I had trouble getting it to restart. I waited for a few seconds before messing w/ it. When nothing happened I unplugged it and plugged it back in my timer. When nothing happened then I uplugged it for a little while and then tried again...nothing. Anyway, a few minutes of playing went by and it finally came on (don't know if I did anything or not to get it to come on).

My question is do these things have some sort of delayed restart? If I would have just left it plugged into the timer would it have come back on? TIA.

Not supposed to re-start Halides until they cool back down. Not sure if it is the ballast protecting the bulb or the hot bulb not firing again but nothing sounds out of the ordinary with your restart issues.

I believe that mine needs to be switched off and back on after power failure. I could be wrong but they probably need to be reset. BTW, I am often wrong.

Did some checking and some ballasts state they are auto - restart. So, definitely some are atleast.

it will auto start but its not good for the bulbs and depending on what bulbs you have wont fire, also if the bulbs are hot and you restart them without letting them cool they could explode wait about 15 minutes before restarting

Halides have longer restrike times than initial fire times. So if you shut it off and then except to refire it immediately, you're probably just wasting time shutting it off and on.
