Yes in short. The experience I have researched and see in 1st person is at least a 4 foot long tank many here will disagree and say a 6 foot tank.

There is no tang that is suitable for a tank of that size as there is not enough swimming room. Sorry for the bad news.

Look at Neon Dotty Back, Firefish, Gobies or Blennies....ohhh and look at 6 Line Wrasse. I'd recommend no more than 3 fish of this general size in your tank. Well, the Tomato Clown would reduce that number to 2 more fish, for a total of 3 fish in the tank.

you are keeping chiclids in a 29 gallon? Also, not to be mean or anything, but if you do work at a pet store i would have thought that you would know about tangs and chiclids and their minimum size requirements.

There are lots of cichlids that stay really small and a 29 is more than adequate to keep them.

davefan13-i only worked in the marine section for 1 week then they switch me to fresh water cause i know alotttttt more about fresh water then saltwater, thats why i come here to expand my knowlage about saltwater more. and there are many kinds of chiclids that will do very well in a 29 gallon,as long as you supply the correct hiding places and lots of things for them to explors with they will be fine that chiclid tank has been setup for about 9 years now and i still have the same 3 chiclids i started with.

You can use a 29g tank if you are keeping small South American cichlids such as rams or apistogrammas. Kribensis could also be kept easily in that small of a tank. Or you could just as effectively keep small African cichlids, especially Tanganykan cichlids, most noteably a small colony of shell dwellers.

.... but that's being mighty off topic of me. *blush*
