ETSS skimmer and Ozone
I am considering adding ozone to my tank - a 210 gallon reef tank. I am considering two options. Option 1 - dose ozone directly into my skimmer, an ETSS 1000. Option 2 - set up a seperate 5 or 10 gallon tank to bubble the ozone directly into the water. I would add water to the small tank from my pump, slowly, and then allow it to drip back into my sump. With both choices, I will run the effluent over carbon prior to returning it to my sump. Thoughts?

You can dose into your skimmer if it has an inlet and is made of ozone safe material. The second option sounds good to me. I had something like that set up in my sump. It was a small box that recieved the water and ozone mix (via pump driven venturi). The box was filled with carbon and acted as a mixing chamber for the ozone treated water. This was then placed/suspended within another slightly larger box that hung over the inside of the sump. The larger box had holes drilled in the bottom and sat just below the water line of the sump. I found this design reduced noise from splashing water quite well. Both boxes were glued together from acrylic.

Thanks for responding. I think the way we talked about doing it is safer. I am not sure that my skimmer is ozone safe. I will discharge the water through a carbon filled piece of pvc modified to act as a "carbon reactor". I think this should safely allow the water to return to my sump. What type of ozonizer do you use?

I use a RedSea Aquazone (50mg/h) unit on a 65 gallon. Its way more than I need but I use it with a Pinpoint orp controller. My skimmer is an AquaC EV240....again, way more than I need. I'm planning to upgrade my tank to a 180 gallon in about a year or so. Almost every piece of equipment I have is over-sized for my 65 gallon since I purchased everything with the intent to go larger.

How has your experience been with the Red Sea Model? How easy is it to use? How accurate if the probe? Do you have to frequently calibrate it? What is your ORP at its peak and worst? Thanks.
